The standing ashtray has been a staple in social settings since the early 20th century; its configuration, mobility, and versatility not only served a practical function but also fostered new forms of social interaction in these spaces.
This design takes the concept a step further by introducing an additional layer of dynamism: height variability. Adapting to different postures—standing, sitting, or reclining—it seamlessly integrates into various environments and situations.
The inspiration for this project comes from bicycle mechanics, particularly the quick-release mechanism used to adjust the seat. This feature, simple yet effective, highlights the underlying principle of this design: the ideal measurement does not exist; it changes and evolves depending on the context and use. This vision transforms the ashtray into a truly adaptable object, perfectly aligned with the dynamic nature of modern life.
The materials were carefully selected for their durability and ability to adapt to dynamic use. The object is made entirely of aluminum, without auxiliary components such as nails or screws; the finishes are protective yet minimal, allowing natural wear—such as scratches and marks—to contribute to the design.
